The Aeolian presents Brassroots

A two-time winner of London’s Jack Richardson Music Award, and the 2013 London Music Award, Brassroots is acclaimed as “one of the finest brass ensembles in Canada” (WholeNote Magazine), and celebrates its 31st year as “London’s pre-eminent brass ensemble” (Scene Magazine).

Building on the pioneering efforts of the UK’s Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, Brassroots’ instrumental mix of four trumpets, one horn, one tuba and four trombones is further coloured with two percussionists, giving Brassroots the flexibility to demonstrate compositional moods and styles that are more often performed by larger and more traditional groups.

In addition to its local concert series, Brassroots has performed through much of Ontario, and internationally in the U.S., Germany, and China.  Its 7 CD’s have aired on radio stations as far away as Australia, and the latest, “Passion For Brass” was hailed by Scene Magazine as “a brilliant effort”.

Brassroots returns to the Aeolian Hall for its Feb. 3 concert with an eclectic mix of music from the world of film – from the evocative “Gabriel’s Oboe” (“The Mission”), to the jubilant high energy “Gonna Fly Now”, from “Rocky”.  This shapes up to be a rich musical feast for film and music lovers alike.
