Aeolian Hall presents:
Terra Lightfoot wsg Ken Yates, both featuring the Borderlands Ensemble

Terra Lightfoot: Whether you’re talking about her as a songwriter, guitarist or vocalist, one thing is indisputable: roots rocker Terra Lightfoot is a ferocious talent. Her songs tap into the raw emotion of hearts supercharged by love, lust, loneliness and temptation. Her playing melds expert finger-picking and distorted, hook-heavy melodies. And her elemental voice commands attention and awe, whether on slow-burning soul ballads or hard-charging rock numbers.

On stages in France, Germany, the UK, the US and across Canada, Lightfoot has performed alongside the likes of Emmylou Harris, Gordon Lightfoot, Ron Sexsmith, Built to Spill, The Both, Grace Potter, Bettye LaVette, Blue Rodeo, Randy Bachman, The Sadies, Steve Earle, The Wood Brothers and Daniel Lanois.

In writing and performing Every Time My Mind Runs Wild, Lightfoot set out to push her limits as a performer and challenge herself creatively. Where her debut was given to slower, softer songs and a subdued vibe, Lightfoot’s new album crackles with immediacy and demands attention. From the moment you put it on, the album announces Lightfoot’s arrival as a confident and natural lead performer.

Ken Yates

Born and raised in London, Ontario, Ken Yates honed his songwriting skills at Boston's prestigeous Berklee College of Music, where he earned high praise from industry professionals. After the release of his first CD, The Backseat EP, Yates received the opportunity to play a song in a showcase for John Mayer, resulting in a rave review from the artist. In a full page blog about Yates ability as a writer, Mayer stated, Ken Yates wrote a song called I Dont Wanna Fall In Love this song moved me when I first heard it and still does today. The EP received high critical acclaim, leading to a slew of online covers from fans. He has toured with acts like  veteran singer/songwriter and mentor, Livingston Taylor, Sister Hazel, Liz Longley, Peter Katz and his singles 'I Wanna Fall In Love' and 'Into The Backseat' are in heavy rotation on Sirius XMs The Coffee House where he was nominated as Sirius XM's Songwriter Discovery of the Year.

The Borderlands Ensemble

The brain-child of composers Igor Saika and Jason Stanford, the Borderlands Ensemble is an eclectic, hybrid, mini-orchestra, designed to excel in virtually any style of instrumental music, whether it be classical, jazz, popular, folk, cabaret, or even the avant-garde.  The main function of the Borderlands Ensemble is to collaborate with a wide range of artists, to create exciting combinations and explore new musical possibilities.

Igor Saika wears many musical hats: he is a composer, arranger, conductor, pianist, cellist, accompanist, and educator.  He has worked extensively in theatre as a music director, and has composed for video games and animations, but his main passion is collaborating with other artists; he has done musical arranging work with groups like Arkells, Terra Lightfoot, the National Academy Orchestra, and the 2015 Juno Awards.

A native of London Ontario, he has returned to live here after many years away, and he is excited to share new musical explorations and collaborations with London audiences.

Jason Stanford’s oeuvre includes a wide range of instrumental and electro-acoustic music compositions, ranging from works for solo instruments and chamber ensembles  to a number of pieces for orchestra.  Jason’s music has been performed across Canada, the US, and Europe including a piece for large orchestra which was performed in 2013 to an audience of two-thousand in Die Musikverein, in Vienna, Austria.   On the other side of the Atlantic, his percussion Quartet ‘Awakening Fire’ has enjoyed over a dozen performances by the TorQ Percussion Quartet.

Jason holds a doctorate in music composition from The University of Toronto and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music composition from Western University (née The University of Western Ontario), where he has been a professor in the Faculty of Music since 2012.   Jason has a deep appreciation for popular music of all styles, and is keenly interested in undertaking creative projects that provide an opportunity for the coalescence of popular and classical music traditions.
